Elect Cindy Mahoney 

About Me.

Originally from the Boston area, I graduated from UMass Amherst and earned a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Simmons. 

After working in different cities, we returned to Northampton to raise our family in this vibrant community. 

Our older daughters both graduated from Northampton High School, and our youngest is currently a student at NHS. 

My youngest daughter and I enjoy volunteering with Bright Spot Therapy Dogs, and I love running in local 5k races with my older daughters.

For many years I taught adults in the English Language Learners program at the International Language Institute here in Northampton. This work holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve continued tutoring whenever I can.

From July 2019 through June 2025, I served on the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Special Education Advisory Council. During that time, the council navigated the COVID pandemic and advised the team developing the new IEP form.

I have volunteered with two DCF programs as a special education surrogate parent and as a volunteer case reviewer. 

In 2023, I began work as an Information Specialist with the Federation for Children with Special Needs (FCSN) where I help parents and caregivers navigate the Massachusetts special education system. 

Prior to joining FCSN, I substituted at the RK Finn Ryan Road School. This experience provided valuable insight into our local elementary school as it emerged from the pandemic.

In December 2023, I became a Board member of the Northampton Special Education Parent Advisory Council and am grateful for the collaborative and collegial efforts of my fellow SEPAC Board members. 

My personal and professional connections with the diverse needs of families is why as a School Committee member, I will be All in For All Families!
